The City of Coralville is offering Earth-friendly events throughout the month of May. There are opportunities to repurpose, upcycle, or discard your unwanted items throughout the month.
Sell
First up is the city-wide garage sale on May 1, 2021. Taking place from 8:00 AM to Noon, you can stop by the Recreation Department to pick up a map of the participating garage sales throughout the city of Coralville. First-come-first-served doughnuts and juice are available to bright-and-eaerly attendees.
Discard
Clean up your yard, clear out the garage, and empty the attic. On May 7 & 10, the city has free extra trash collection. Yes, free! You’ll have one additional free trash cart collection, so place trans and smaller items in your trash cart on the designated day. If your collection usually takes place on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday your extra collection day will be Friday, May 7. For households with collections days on Thursday, the extra day will be Monday, May 10.
Shred
May 8, 2021 is Shred Day. From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Coralville residents may bring up to two boxes of their personal papers to the Coralville Community Aquatic Center parking lot. Free shredding is offered by Heartland Shredding as a partnership with the Coralville Police Department. Protect yourself from identity theft by shredding paperwork the identifying information.
Clean Up
For items too large to fit your trash cart, plan for the Mayor’s Spring Clean-Up Week large trash pick up. Taking place May 10-14, put your larger items such as broken furniture, bathroom fixtures, and other large trash out for pickup. Check here for more information about the Mayor’s Clean-Up Week.
Donate
Protect the Earth, simplify your life, and do a good deed all at the same time. So take any usable furniture, fixtures, or building materials to the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Donations may be taken to 2401 Scott Boulevard SE in Iowa City, or call for free pickup. And donations are tax-deductible. You’ll find more information at the Iowa Valley Habitat Restore website.
